How does botulinum toxin work on bunny lines?
Bunny lines form from the nasal muscle (nasalis), which draws the skin on the nose bridge together when you scrunch the nose. A very small dose of botulinum toxin relaxes this muscle precisely, so the diagonal creases soften. The effect sets in after a few days and usually lasts three to four months.
Bunny lines are a classic detail area: the aim is not to immobilise the nasal muscle entirely, but only to relax the parts that form the bothersome creases. Usually one injection per side with a very small amount is enough. We have you deliberately scrunch your nose so we hit the “peaks” of the lines exactly.
Bunny lines often appear or intensify only after the frown lines or crow’s feet have been treated – as a compensatory movement, because neighbouring muscles now work more. We therefore always view the upper half of the face as a unit and include the nose in the planning.
Placement close to the nose bridge and not too far to the side is decisive. If the toxin migrates toward the cheek to the upper-lip lifter (levator labii superioris alaeque nasi), the upper lip can drop or the smile become asymmetric. With a correct, more medial injection point and a small dose this is reliably avoided.

- Common and temporary: mild redness or a small bruise on the nose bridge.
- If injected too far to the side: a drop of the upper lip or an asymmetric smile if the upper-lip lifter is affected – temporary and avoidable with correct technique.
- Occasionally: a brief feeling of tightness or pressure on the nose.
- Rare: slight asymmetry of the remaining expression, which can be adjusted.
When should treatment be avoided?
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Certain neuromuscular conditions (e.g. myasthenia gravis)
- Known allergy to ingredients of botulinum toxin
- Acute infection or inflammation on the nose bridge
- With lines lying very far to the side or after nasal procedures, particular care is needed not to affect the upper-lip lifter – otherwise the upper lip can drop
Aftercare
- Do not rub or massage the nose bridge for the first few hours
- Keep your head upright for about 4 hours; do not lie down
- No sport, sauna or tanning for 24 hours
- On the treatment day, let glasses rest on the nose bridge as little as possible

Why do bunny lines sometimes appear only after other treatments?
When the frown lines or crow’s feet are relaxed, the nasal muscle works more compensatorily when you scrunch the nose. We therefore include the nose in the plan if needed.
Will the treatment affect my smile?
