Hyaluronic-acid fillers

Treating marionette lines with hyaluronic acid in Wolfsburg

Marionette lines run down from the mouth corners toward the chin and can give the face a sad or stern look at rest. At our Wolfsburg practice, physician Rafee El Kaddour softens these lines with hyaluronic acid by supporting the tissue along the fold and at the mouth corners. We often include the adjoining chin and pre-jowl region, because a stable framework smooths the lines more durably than filling alone.

How are marionette lines treated with filler?

Hyaluronic acid is placed along the fold and at the mouth corners to support sunken tissue and cushion the line. The chin or pre-jowl region is often supported as well to stabilise the framework. The result is visible immediately and dissolvable with hyaluronidase if needed.

Marionette lines form from a combination of volume loss above and below the mouth corner and the pull of the muscle that draws the corners down. We therefore treat not just the visible line but specifically support the corner and – where useful – the chin and the pre-jowl region in front of it.

Filling the fold alone often looks unstable and can appear heavy. A considered build-up that also accounts for the framework of chin and mouth corner smooths the line more naturally and usually for longer.

If the downward muscle pull is pronounced, complementary relaxation of that muscle with botulinum toxin can make sense. Which combination suits you, we clarify individually and honestly.

Very deep, etched marionette lines can be markedly softened but not always fully erased. We discuss realistic expectations and a sensible amount rather than overfilling.

Procedure & duration

How the treatment works

  1. 01Free consultation and analysis of the mouth corner, fold and chin framework
  2. 02Deciding whether to support the fold, mouth corner and/or chin/pre-jowl
  3. 03Local anaesthetic on request; many gels already contain a local anaesthetic
  4. 04Treatment, where possible with a blunt micro-cannula, for added safety
  5. 05Duration: about 20–30 minutes, usually with no significant downtime
Results & longevity

Results & longevity

The lines look softened immediately; once mild swelling subsides (usually a few days) the final result appears. In the mobile lower mouth region, hyaluronic acid lasts about 9 to 15 months depending on metabolism – when the calmer chin is supported too, that portion tends to last longer. It can then be refreshed.

Results are individual and may vary. Before/after images show real treatments and are published only with the patient’s explicit consent.

Risks & side effects

Risks & side effects

  • Common and temporary: swelling, redness, tenderness or small bruises along the fold and at the mouth corner.
  • Occasionally: palpable unevenness or a feeling of heaviness if too much volume is placed only into the fold – usually easy to correct.
  • Rare: infection, allergic reaction; herpes reactivation is possible in the mouth region – with a known tendency, please mention it.
  • Very rare but serious: vascular occlusion. For this emergency we keep the antidote hyaluronidase and an emergency protocol ready and work, where possible, with blunt micro-cannulas; hyaluronic acid is also dissolvable.
  • Contact us immediately in case of severe or increasing pain, pale/blotchy skin discolouration or changes in vision.

Aftercare

  • Do not massage the treated area firmly for 24–48 hours (unless instructed)
  • No intense sport, sauna or tanning for the first 24 hours
  • Avoid heat and direct sun until the swelling has subsided
  • Cooling eases swelling; alcohol and blood thinners promote bruising

Who is it for?

Suitable when the lines from the mouth corners to the chin give the face a sad or stern look at rest. A clear softening and a fresher impression are realistic; very deep lines can be reduced but not always fully smoothed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do these differ from mouth corners and nasolabial folds?

Nasolabial folds run from the nose to the mouth corner; marionette lines run from the corner to the chin. The mouth-corner lift specifically raises the corner – we often treat these areas together.

Why is the chin often treated as well?

Marionette lines need a stable framework. A supported chin and pre-jowl region carry the mouth corners and smooth the line more naturally and usually for longer.

How long do marionette-line treatments last?

About 9 to 15 months, depending on metabolism. The portion supported via the calmer chin tends to last longer than that in the mobile fold.

Does Botox help here too?

With a strong downward muscle pull, botulinum toxin can relax the relevant muscle and complement hyaluronic acid. Whether a combination is sensible, we clarify individually.

What does treating marionette lines cost in Wolfsburg?

Treatment starts from €249 per ml; the total depends on the amount and whether the chin/mouth corners are treated too. The first consultation is free.
