Treating nasolabial folds with hyaluronic acid in Wolfsburg
Nasolabial folds – the lines running from the nose to the mouth corner – can be softened precisely with hyaluronic acid at our Wolfsburg practice. Physician Rafee El Kaddour does not simply fill the fold but first checks whether the real cause is volume loss in the cheek. Often the result looks more natural when we support the mid-face rather than overfilling the fold itself. This creates a fresher overall look without heaviness around the mouth.
How are nasolabial folds treated with filler?
There are two approaches: hyaluronic acid is either placed directly beneath the fold to cushion it, or into the cheek to lift descended tissue and reduce the pull on the fold. We often combine both conservatively. The result is visible immediately and dissolvable if needed.
The nasolabial fold is usually less a “wrinkle” than a volume issue: over the years the cheek fat descends, and the excess tissue settles as a fold over the mouth corner. We therefore check the cheek first – often the fold can be markedly softened simply by supporting the mid-face.
Filling only the fold itself heavily can make the area around the mouth look heavy and unnatural. A subtle, possibly combined build-up across cheek and fold gives softer transitions and a more natural overall look.
Very deep folds, already clearly etched at rest, can be softened but not always fully erased. We discuss honestly which result is realistic with which amount – and when less is more.
The lower nasolabial region borders important vessels. Here safety comes first: we work, where possible, with blunt micro-cannulas and at a suitable tissue depth.
How the treatment works
- 01Free consultation and analysis of whether the cheek, the fold or both is the cause
- 02Selection of a suitable hyaluronic gel and defining the technique
- 03Local anaesthetic on request; many gels already contain a local anaesthetic
- 04Treatment, where possible with a blunt micro-cannula, at a suitable depth
- 05Duration: about 20–30 minutes, usually with no significant downtime
Results & longevity
The fold looks softened immediately; once mild swelling subsides (usually a few days) the final result appears. Depending on product, technique and metabolism, hyaluronic acid lasts about 9 to 18 months here – tending to last longer when supported via the cheek (a calmer area) than directly in the mobile fold. It can then be refreshed.
Results are individual and may vary. Before/after images show real treatments and are published only with the patient’s explicit consent.
Risks & side effects
Risks & side effects
- Common and temporary: swelling, redness, tenderness or small bruises along the fold.
- Occasionally: palpable irregularities or a slight heaviness if too much volume is placed directly into the fold – usually easy to correct.
- Rare: infection, allergic reaction; herpes reactivation is possible near the mouth region – with a known tendency, please mention it.
- Very rare but serious: vascular occlusion. The lower nasolabial region lies close to vessels. For this emergency we keep the antidote hyaluronidase and an emergency protocol ready and work, where possible, with blunt micro-cannulas; hyaluronic acid is also dissolvable.
- Contact us immediately in case of severe or increasing pain, pale/blotchy skin discolouration or changes in vision.
Aftercare
- Do not massage the treated area firmly for 24–48 hours (unless instructed)
- No intense sport, sauna or tanning for the first 24 hours
- Avoid heat and direct sun until the swelling has subsided
- Cooling eases swelling; alcohol and blood thinners promote bruising
Who is it for?
Suitable when the lines from nose to mouth make the face look tired or older. A clear softening and a fresher overall impression are realistic – with deep folds, more a reduction than a complete disappearance.

Why treat the cheek rather than the fold?
The nasolabial fold often results from descended cheek volume. Supporting the cheek lifts the tissue and softens the fold – often more naturally than filling it directly.
Will the nasolabial fold disappear completely?
A clear softening is realistic. Very deep folds visible at rest can be reduced but not always fully erased.
How long does filler last in the nasolabial fold?
About 9 to 18 months, depending on product and technique. Supported via the calmer cheek it tends to last longer than directly in the mobile fold.
How much filler is needed?
That depends on the depth of the fold and the strategy; often 1 ml per side is enough, sometimes combined with the cheek. We agree the amount together in the consultation.
What does treating nasolabial folds cost in Wolfsburg?
Treatment starts from €249 per ml; the total depends on the amount needed. The first consultation is free.
